Your Journey

Each day unfolds with new wonders, carefully designed to immerse you in Tanzania's wilderness and culture.

Day 1

Karibu! A Warm Tanzanian Welcome

Kilimanjaro Airport → Karatu
Hhando Coffee Lodge, Karatu
Meals: Half Board

Tanzania greets you with open arms, gentle warmth and the unmistakable feeling that adventure awaits just beyond the horizon. After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, your Cross Road Safaris driver-guide will welcome you with a friendly smile at the arrivals hall. From here, you begin your journey toward the green highlands of Karatu — a scenic drive of about three hours. As you travel along smooth tarmac roads, the world outside your window feels like a moving tapestry: vast open plains, busy villages, colourful markets and the rhythm of everyday Tanzanian life. This is also a perfect time to get to know your guide, share your hopes for the safari ahead, and ask about the wildlife you might encounter in the coming days.

Activities:

  • Airport pickup
  • Scenic drive to Karatu highlands
  • Meet your guide
  • Evening at leisure
Day 2

Ngorongoro Crater: A Natural Wonder

Ngorongoro Crater → Serengeti
Sero Tented Camp
Meals: Full Board

Today, something truly extraordinary awaits you — the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater. To experience its magic at its best, an early start is recommended. Your ascent follows winding forested roads until you reach the rim... and then suddenly, the landscape opens. Before you lies an immense volcanic caldera, a vast ancient bowl stretching wide beneath the towering rim. At 600 metres deep and over 260 square kilometres in size, the crater is a breathtaking sanctuary — a world within a world. As you descend, the 'dots' you saw from above transform into living herds. Ngorongoro is home to over 25,000 animals and has one of the highest predator densities anywhere in Africa. A picnic lunch is enjoyed surrounded by this extraordinary landscape. From here, your journey continues toward the Serengeti, passing through Naabi Hill Gate where the Serengeti reveals itself in full majesty: endless grasslands punctuated by ancient granite outcrops, the 'Simba Kopjes,' where lions love to bask and observe their kingdom.

Activities:

  • Early crater descent
  • Full crater floor game drive
  • Picnic lunch in crater
  • Drive to Serengeti via Naabi Hill
Day 3

A Full Day in the Serengeti

Serengeti National Park
Seasonal Camp
Meals: Full Board

This day is devoted entirely to exploring the boundless Serengeti — a place where every turn holds possibility. Whether you dream of spotting the Big Five, observing elegant cheetahs, watching elephants move in quiet procession or discovering colourful birdlife, the Serengeti has a way of surprising even the most seasoned travellers. Very little has changed here in over a million years — nature continues its ancient rhythm, uninterrupted. If you visit between July and October, you may witness one of Earth's most extraordinary spectacles: the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move across the plains in a ceaseless journey between Tanzania and Kenya — one of the natural wonders of the world. With roughly 70 species of large mammals and over 500 bird species, Serengeti promises moments of wonder at every turn.

Activities:

  • Full day game drives
  • Big Five viewing
  • Great Migration (seasonal)
  • Optional hot air balloon safari (extra cost)
Day 4

Endless Plains and Timeless Beauty

Serengeti National Park
Seasonal Camp
Meals: Full Board

The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word siringit, meaning 'endless plains' — a perfectly fitting description of your surroundings today. You'll spend another full day exploring these sweeping grasslands, following the rhythm of the animals and allowing the landscape to unfold around you. Perhaps you'll find lions lazing on warm rocks, giraffes drifting across the horizon or elephants dusting themselves in the afternoon sun. Back at camp in the evening, you'll gather around the firelight with fellow travellers, sharing stories as the sky turns soft gold and eventually fades into a blanket of stars. These moments — warm, unhurried, quietly magical — become some of the most cherished memories of a safari.

Activities:

  • Morning game drive
  • Afternoon wildlife viewing
  • Sunset on the plains
  • Evening campfire storytelling
Day 5

Wildlife, Culture & Human History

Serengeti → Ngorongoro Conservation Area → Karatu
Hhando Coffee Lodge, Karatu
Meals: Full Board

After breakfast, it's time to bid farewell to the Serengeti. But the journey continues — slowly, pole pole, with game viewing along the way as you make your way back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Once inside the conservation area, you may choose between two fascinating experiences: Olduvai Gorge — for lovers of history and archaeology, this extraordinary site is considered one of the most important paleoanthropological discoveries in the world, believed to hold remnants of the earliest humans who walked the Earth. Or visit a Maasai Village — if cultural connection is what draws you in, visiting a Maasai village offers insight into centuries-old traditions and daily life in one of East Africa's most iconic tribes.

Activities:

  • Morning game drive
  • Return journey with wildlife viewing
  • Olduvai Gorge OR Maasai village visit
  • Return to Karatu
Day 6

A Day of Choice: More Safari or Cultural Encounters

Karatu → Kilimanjaro Airport
None (Departure)
Meals: Half Board

Your final day offers you the freedom to shape your own adventure. Perhaps you choose another wildlife experience and head to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and beautiful lakeshore scenery. Or maybe you visit the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in the world — a rare glimpse into an ancient way of life. For a different kind of immersion, you may opt for a cooking class, beginning with a lively visit to the local market before learning to prepare traditional Tanzanian dishes. Whichever path you choose, this day is designed to bring you closer to the soul of Tanzania — its people, its flavours and its landscapes. After lunch, you'll make your way toward Kilimanjaro Airport, carrying with you a heart full of unforgettable memories and new stories to share.

Activities:

  • Optional Lake Manyara visit
  • Optional Hadzabe tribe experience
  • Optional cooking class
  • Airport transfer
